Bret Weller

February 12, 1971 — April 28, 2022

Bret Joseph Weller, age 51, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 28, 2022.  Bret was an exceptionally devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, fisherman and cyclist.  He leaves behind his partner in all things and wife, Stephanie, his daughters Sarah and Olivia, his parents Rita Weller and Roland Weller, his sister Lana Wheatley, her husband Mark and their children Samantha and Connor.

Bret attended Saints Peter and Paul grade school, Regis Jesuit High School and Regis University.  He respected the values of Jesuit education and modeled his own teaching after the practices and wisdom that meant so much to him as he experienced his own education.

Several years after graduating college, Bret was introduced to Steph by a mutual friend in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996 as he happened to be traveling through. Shortly after, there was no looking back.  They have been best friends since that time in Albuquerque 26 years ago and would have been married 25 years this coming October.

On Fathers Day in 2000, Bret became a father. He was a diaper-changer, tear-dryer, Irish Dance wig-straightener, and found endless entertainment in the whole ordeal.  He was hands-on, involved in all, and dedicated right from the beginning.

Bret found great joy and contentment in the Colorado outdoors and the beauty of the mountains. Whether he was fly fishing the Arkansas or Roaring Fork River, he felt at home and at peace.  He felt strengthened and energized by his regular biking on the trails of nearby Cherry Creek State Park.

Bret always had a deep respect for different religious traditions and found comfort in his own. While studying and embracing religion fulfilled him spiritually, literature fulfilled him intellectually. Bret had an innate love of literature.  He had a gift for imparting this wisdom to others, to find the deeper meaning in all things, and to creatively look at a situation.  This made him a natural teacher to many and a lifelong learner himself.

Bret leaves behind his family and friends with the unquestionable knowledge that he loved them deeply.  He shaped and enriched the lives of so many in his years of teaching and mentoring students.  Despite his incredible impact on the world, he is gone far too soon.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 10th 10:30am at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church at 18000 East Arapahoe Rd., Foxfield, CO.  In lieu of flowers, Bret’s family asks that donations be made to Trout Unlimited https://www.tu.org/ .
