Beverly Chapman

August 17, 1938 — September 17, 2020

Littleton

Beverly “Jean” Chapman passed away at age 82 on September 17, 2020 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.  She died of complications following surgery.

Jean was born August 17, 1938, in Ramsey, Illinois to Melvin and Pauline Hall.  As her life unfolded, she lived in Decatur, Illinois, and several small farming communities in the vicinity of Ramsey before moving to the nearby town of Vandalia, Illinois where she finished high school.

She worked for the US Government in the Census Bureau, National Park Service, and the Forest Service in personnel and administrative capacities and enjoyed contacts with her friends and co-workers.

She married her husband, John F. Chapman, a career National Park Service employee, in 1990.  Together they formed a loving twosome who enjoyed road trips (camping along the CA coast), driving into small towns as they traveled to the Midwest, and traveling (a month throughout Turkey and another month going through England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales).  She loved the mountains and together they hiked numerous trails and Jean even completed a Fourteener. She and John also enjoyed many nights at square dancing club gatherings. Jean had a great love of nature and loved her English style flower garden that she tended which had large rose bushes and other perennials.  Both she and John are ardent readers and enjoyed quiet times at home in evening chairs reading or watching their favorite shows. Jean also was a popular member of her ladies Bible Study Group at church and the two of them attended the Seniors’ Sunday School and had firm friendships there. They were members of the Community Church of Gunnison, CO when living there and have attended Foothills Bible Church in Littleton since 2006.

John states, “My beautiful lady, Jean, left on her final journey. She is blessed and a blessing herself to the Lord. Girlfriend, partner, wife, friend...bits and pieces of this woman throughout me. We traveled together always but I couldn’t be with her this time. She affected people who hardly knew her with her heart which came through her eyes and smile and voice. She believed in caring and being peaceful with all. I am so blessed to have been hers for 30 years.”

Friends saddened by Jean’s passing have noted, “Like the sunshine, Jean brought light and warmth to all she touched.”  She believed in people and exhibited laughter, smiles, and friendship to all she met and was peaceful at heart in her feelings about life and those around her.

With her first husband, Roger Withers, Jean had six children: Joni Thea Withers, Mitchell “Mitch” Withers (Jami), David Withers (Rhonda), Steven Withers, Julie K Vincent, and Joseph “Joe” Withers (Julie).

Jean is preceded in death by her first husband; parents; half-brother Robert Williams; half-sister Joyce Pagitt; and sister Marjorie Forbes. She is survived by her husband, John; and her six children.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Zane (Marti), Chase, Rachel, Megan, Cameron, and Michael; and 3 great grandchildren, Bryson and Alayna Lou, and Gavin.  She is also survived by her younger brother, James Hall (Shirley) of Brownstown, Illinois and a half-sister, Kathleen Eng (Goodoff), of Astoria, New York.
