Benito "Tony" Antonio Ruybal

1939 — January 1, 2023

Denver, Colorado

Benito “Tony” Antonio Ruybal of Denver, Colorado, was a caring, selfless, hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world bravely at 83 after a long and hard-fought battle against prostate cancer and COPD. Tony passed away January 15, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born July 13, 1939, in Pueblo, Colorado to Solomon Pedro and Virginia Sevilla Ruybal. Tony spent his early years living in the San Luis Valley where at the very young age of 9 he found himself a top a mountain herding sheep by himself to help support his family. Tony has always been known to be a hard worker in order to take care of his loved ones. He married the love of his life, Rosalie Abeyta, and they eventually called Denver their home. Tony and Rosalie purchased a house that they made their home for the last 61 years where they raised their four children.

Tony had a special talent in wood working and created numerous keepsakes such as tractors, old cars, Ferris wheels, wheel barrel planters, wagons, trains, airplanes, windmills, and a doghouse just to name a few. He was a skilled fisherman and took pride teaching his children and grandchildren this art. There didn’t seem to be a fishing trip when he did not catch at least one fish. Tony took great pride in the many old cars he owned and passed this love onto his children. Everyone knew that Tony’s cars were top notch, fast, and clean.

Tony retired from Protecto-Wrap after a 41-year career. Life after retirement found Tony and his wife Rosalie spoiling each and every one of their grandchildren with candy and cookies. All his kids could count on having sweets in hand every time they went to grandpa’s house. This love for cookies and candy remained true through the last days of his life where he would have 3-4 cookies every morning with his coffee after eating breakfast. It was quite normal for cookies and coffee to be his breakfast.

Tony’s unique little laugh made his family laugh with joy. His backyard garden was second to none as he was known to grow the biggest pumpkins that he provided to his children/grandchildren. His green chili plants produced some of the best chilis around and the smell of them roasting in the backyard is unforgettable. Tony loved his Colorado sports teams and enjoyed watching boxing matches regularly. He even attended a World Series game.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon Ruybal and Virginia Garcia; and his loving wife, Rosalie.

He is survived by his children: Cyndi Ruybal (Paul); Anthony Ruybal (Sandy); Suzanne Brown (Mark); and Stuart Ruybal (Amy); grandchildren: Lucas Ruybal (Jessika); Ray Anthony Ruybal; Justin Benito Ruybal; Dominic Ruybal (Gabrielle); Stephan Brown; Shaylee Ruybal; Fayth Ruybal; Raeana Ruybal; Sienna Sandoval and Greyson Sandoval; great-grandchildren: Izaac Ruybal, Ethan Ruybal and Sebastian Ruybal; siblings: Celestino Abalino Ruybal (Fannie); Maria Micaella Ruybal (Walter); Maria Barbara Lawrence (John) and Joe Y. Garcia.
