Our wonderful mother, Barbara, was born on November 29, 1931 to Theodore and Rosalma Jordan in Burlington, Vermont. She had 3 sisters and a brother. Above all, she loved children and enjoyed helping them grow. Mom had eight (yes, eight) kids of her own, and was very proud of her 14 grandkids and 14 great-grandkids
A conventional obituary might address college degrees, career success, material accomplishments, and the typical milestones that seem important in this world at the moment. Yes, mom had several careers, accomplished much, and was successful at all of those standard areas of earthly “importance.”
But what really made mom distinctive, eternally memorable, and truly important in a much grander way, was her relentless desire to serve people, to give to those in need, and to be constantly supportive to those around her. I immediately envision mom in the text of Matthew 25:34-40. Even when she didn’t have abundance to give away, she still always put the needs of others above her own. And, in a very concise manner, that attribute describes the cornerstone of her life.
For mom’s surviving children: Jim, Tim, Ann, Pat, Sheila, Bill and Tom, grandchildren and great grandchildren, the world will be an emptier place without her radiant energy and kindness.
Until we meet again. We all love you so much.
