Ayned Mccomb

September 22, 1918 — June 16, 2021

Arvada, Colorado

Ayned Louise McComb, 102, died on June 16, 2021 in Arvada, Colorado. She led a life dedicated to the service of humanity and will be greatly missed.

Ayned was born on September 22, 1918 in Lynn, Massachusetts and spent her childhood years in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Maryland, Florida and Illinois, depending on where her father could find work as an auditor. She graduated from Lake View High School in Chicago in 1936. Although she studied classical dance for ten years, her real love was writing.  Nevertheless, she turned down several journalism scholarships to move to New York City, where she worked at Townhall, Inc.

She met Lucien Seeley McComb at the Green Acre Baha'i School in Eliot, Maine and the two were married in New York City in 1940. They had three sons: Jeffrey, Michael and Gordon, who survive her.

Lucien's work for the Department of Defense brought the family abroad for more than three decades where they lived in Puerto Rico, France, and Germany. While abroad, Ayned found creative expression in art and produced many works for exhibition. After her husband’s retirement, they moved back to the U.S. to be closer to their son Gordon, his wife Lauren, and their three grandchildren: Ross, Lindsay and Glenn. Ayned and Lucien lived in Eugene, Oregon for nine years before moving to Arvada, Colorado in 1994.

In every place they lived, across the globe, Ayned and Lucien were active members of the Baha'i Faith community and served in various capacities in interfaith and race unity organizations (including the NAACP) where they worked to promote harmony and peace.

Ayned was a beloved member of the Arvada Baha'i community for many years where she served as Secretary of the Local Spiritual Assembly. She was a talented writer who loved to read, a skilled seamstress who made lovely quilts and embroidery pieces, and an absolutely adored grandmother who was devoted to her family.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Arvada Cemetery.
