Ann Kallas

March 23, 1920 — June 27, 2022

Ann Kallas of Littleton passed away peacefully at home on June 27 at age 102.

Ann is survived by her son Lewis; daughter Maria; grandchildren Nicholas L. Smiley-Kallas (Garrett Lacivita) of Moscow, ID, Michael Kallas, Anna Melissa (Aleksandr) Trbovich of Durango, CO; and great-grandson Emryk Matthew Trbovich.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Mel; Mother and Father, Lena (Shedlowski) and Nicholas Petropoulos of Milwaukee, WI; Sisters Mary (Nick) Actipes, Lillian (Bill) Barnett, Ruth (Jack) Burke, Marta (Edward) Moran and brother PFC Thomas Petropoulos.

In the years preceding her death, Ann was blessed with three angels that cared for her and tended to her every need.  Shanty Pruitt, Wiwin Windayati and Emma Kolaas acted as daughters caring for their own mothers.  Their love, gentle touch, friendship and devotion brought Ann peace and comfort.

Ann was a strong and determined woman.  She was passionate about family, cooking traditional Greek meals, holiday gatherings, service to others and her career.  She was elegant and spirited.

Ann was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1920. She was a fashion model and cosmetician prior to WW2.  In 1943, she joined The American National Red Cross as a Special Services Volunteer and served injured, returning service members in The Nurse’s Aide Corps.  She was recognized for this service in 1944 by then-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1949, she moved to St. Louis, MO and married decorated veteran Mel Kallas.  She resumed her career until the birth of their first of two children; then she remained a stay-at-home working mother for the next 20 years.

In 1972, Ann accepted a position at Mid-West Dry Cleaning as corporate receptionist; and in 1979 became the receptionist and voice of Home Federal Savings and Loan in Chesterfield, MO where she worked until her retirement in 1994.

Ann and Mel moved to Littleton, CO in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Ann became a Great-Yiaya in 2021 with the birth of Emryk Matthew Trbovich.

Ann was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in St. Louis and St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, CO.  She was trilingual, speaking Greek, Russian and English; and a lifetime member of the Democratic Party working for peace and social justice.

A Trisagion will be held on Tuesday July 5, 2022 7pm and the Funeral Service on Wednesday July 6, 2022 11am, at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox church; 5555 S. Yosemite St. Greenwood Village 80111.
