Anita Jewell Bittle passed away the morning of July 26, 2020. She was born in 1930 and most of her childhood was spent in Center, CO. Her parents, Helen and Jim held various jobs including raising honey bees and cultivating large gardens in the summer. Her Dad would often fish in Saguache Park and was usually successful bringing fresh trout home for dinner. Anita’s brother, Bernie was born in 1934 and they both excelled in school and enjoyed their friends and social activities. On January 26, 1946 Anita had her first date with Ray at a school dance. They were married May 26, 1952 before Ray served in Combat Infantry with the US Army in the Korean War. Anita graduated from the University of Colorado and taught school for a year in Brighton, CO while Ray was overseas. After he returned safely home, they eventually moved to Applewood and raised their two children. Once the kids were in school, Anita resumed work as a bookkeeper/accountant for medical and law offices until she retired with Ray. The gardening she learned as a child continued throughout her adult life and every year, she grew absolutely beautiful flower beds and rose bushes at her home of 54 years in Applewood. In addition to gardening, retirement included cooking, many hours volunteering at Lutheran Hospital, traveling with Ray and spending Tuesdays with beloved granddaughters. Anita is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, son, daughter and two granddaughters.
