William Martin

November 18, 1965 — April 9, 2023

William Paul “Bill Paul” Martin passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023 after a courageous seven-year battle with ALS at the age of 57.

Bill was born November 18th, 1965, in El Paso, Texas, to Lynn and Nelson Martin. After graduating from Coronado High School in El Paso, he studied business at the University of Texas at Austin. Post-graduation, he embarked on a career in retail purchasing in the sports industry, which was perfect because Bill was an avid sportsman. He loved to play basketball and golf, and the man loved the gym. But perhaps his favorite sporting activity was cheering on the Longhorns. He was never happier than when he was tailgating at 6 am in anticipation of a big game. We know we speak for Bill when we say, “ Hook ’em!”

Perhaps more than anything, Bill loved his family. He treasured every minute of being a father to daughter Mia and son Luke. Whether it was playing whiffle baseball in the back yard while barbecuing or singing and dancing in the kitchen, hanging out with his children brought him true happiness—even after Mia chose to become a dreaded Oklahoma Sooner. In fact, Bill loved the back and forth that came with a house divided. Luke stayed true and always cheered on the Longhorns with his dad. Mia and Luke, know that you made every moment of your father’s life an absolute joy!

Bill married his best friend and love of his life, Julianne on February 8, 1997. Laughter and love were a constant during their 26-year marriage, and Julianne will always be grateful that she was blessed to have him as her partner and co-parent.

To say that Bill Paul had a huge circle of friends would be a massive understatement. Always a Texas gentleman, he was the epitome of southern hospitality. He was humble, kind, loving, hospitable, and always had the best playlist. He loved all kinds of music—he was a connoisseur of both classic country and heavy metal—and friends and family never knew if they were walking into a house blaring Don Williams or Metallica

Bill is survived by his wife, Julianne Hoefs Martin and their children Mia Martin and Luke Martin. His father Nelson Martin and his wife Sandra Martin, his siblings Wayne (Kristina) Martin and Carolyn (Scott) Goldfarb as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.  He is proceeded in death by his mother Lynn Martin, maternal grandparents Rosa Lea and Carlos Carter, paternal grandparents Daisy and Abe Martin.

To best honor Bill, live life to the fullest. Tell the important people in your life how much they mean to you. Leave this world knowing you left it better, just as Bill did.  A Celebration of his life will be held Monday, April 17th, 2023, at 2p.m. at St. Andrew's Church,9203 S.
