William H. ""Willie"" Koontz passed away August 17, 2015 in his home at Harvard Square Retirement Community in Denver, Colorado. Willie was born October 20, 1925 to Hobart and Gladys Koontz in Charleston, West Virginia, where he resided until February 2014. At that time he and his wife, Joanna, moved to Denver to be near family. Before retirement Willie owned Koontz Brothers' Sunoco in North Charleston and later was part owner of Midas Muffler in Charleston. Willie was well known among his customers and friends for great service and good conversation. Willie graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1943. He was a naval veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He attended Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church over 50 years. Also, he was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 153, Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Temple. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers, Russell Koontz, Jack Koontz, and his sisters, Jackie Bowman, Phyllis Holley. Surviving Willie are his wife of 67 years, Joanna Sullivan Koontz; son, Bill Koontz (Kristi) of Camden Point, MO; daughter, Deb Steinberg (Marty) of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Kristi McNeary (Mark) of Troutman, NC, Billy Koontz of Omaha, NE, Sydney Villareal (Mike) of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Tristan Walsh, Harrison Cymbala, Will Koontz and Izzy Cymbala. Also, his brothers, Cletes Koontz of Melbourne, FL, Paul Koontz of Dunbar, WV, and sister-in-law, Rosemary Burns (Bob) of Kemp, TX, along with many loving nieces and nephews. His grand-dog, MacKenney aka Bogey will miss playing fetch with him. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Harvard Square, Elderlink and Denver Hospice who gave him comfort and support over the last few weeks. A celebration of Willie's life will take place Saturday, September 19, 11:00 AM in Denver at Harvard Square Retirement Community, 10200 East Harvard Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to West Virginia State Parks Foundation, 324 4th Ave, South Charleston, WV 25303.
