It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of William Jacque DeLine, who left us peacefully at the age of 90 on Tuesday, November 18, surrounded by his loving family and his beautiful wife.
Born August 14, 1935, in Denver, Colorado, Bill, affectionately known as "Grandsir" to his grandchildren, was a devoted family man and successful businessman. He attended Regis Jesuit High School, continued his education at Marquette University, and ultimately graduated from Regis College in 1957. Before graduating from college, Bill married Adele Murray on December 29, 1956. Together, they built a large and loving family that includes five children, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
Professionally, Bill was remembered as "Business Bill" by his colleagues. He began his career selling for the family box company, and later had a successful career as manufacturing rep for packaging equipment. Seeking a new challenge, he purchased a Coors distributing company called D&D Sales, which he owned and operated until his retirement. Through D&D Sales, he built his business legacy and provided for his family. Bill was known for his generosity towards his employees, offering full-ride scholarships to those choosing to attend Arapahoe Community College. He encouraged everyone to grow and supported them when moving on to bigger and better opportunities. Those who stayed with him were very loyal to both Bill and D&D Sales.
Bill's commitment to charity work was remarkable. For ten years, he was deeply committed to bringing teenagers to Christ through a program called "Teens Encounter Christ”. Another commitment was to the Mankind Project & Gathering of Men Retreat which focused on self-awareness, and personal growth. He also participated in the remodeling of Most Precious Blood Church, organized numerous charity golf tournaments, donated to many causes and supported the Regis College School of Business.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, and was an avid follower of the Broncos and Rockies. Golf was more than a hobby; it was a passion. Bill played, hosted, and worked at countless golf tournaments. His passion for this sport allowed him to take numerous fellow golfers to both Ireland and Scotland. He also enjoyed playing several of these courses with his wife, Adele.
Bill had a passion for beautiful art, Native American history, and storytelling. He was a gifted storyteller, jokester, and loved making people laugh. He also cherished long conversations, especially those of a spiritual nature. More recently, Bill wanted to know every detail of what his grandchildren and their significant others were doing in their careers and life paths, and his memory in this regard was amazing.
How do you measure a man?
Is it by his relationship to his brothers and sister, to his parents? Is it by his relationship to Christ? Do you measure a man by his children? Grandchildren? What about his morals and ethics? Charity work? How about respect? Did the man respect others and their dignity as a son or daughter of God? Do you measure a man by his wife? A woman who stood by his side for almost 69 years through thick and thin and helped raise a strong family.
Bill DeLine hit all those marks.
