Colonel William (Bull) J. Bonner, Jr., USMC, Retired, age 82, died in his home in Monument, Colorado, on 23 December 2022. Born near San Antonio, Texas, on 27 December 1939, he was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He continued his education at St. Mary’s University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and receiving his commission in the United States Marine Corps. He spent his life in civil service working extensively for the US Geological Survey and Bureau of Land Management. His military service was completed in the Marine reserves and was primarily in the field of intelligence.
Colonel Bonner was an avid reader, outdoorsman, and WWII historian and enjoyed cooking. He gave several guest lectures at a high school in Lakewood where he also volunteered as an assistant coach and mentor for the football team for many years. He is survived by his former wife, Ellen, daughter Alline (Bill) Muldoon, son Bill (Virginia), daughter Carol Bonner, daughter Amanda Zimmerman, son John, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bridgette Bonner, and son, Patrick, as well as his parents and two sisters, Isis and Iris.
Funeral Mass will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church in Monument on Wednesday 18 January at 10:00 am. Burial Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Semper Fi and American’s Fund.
