Wayne Bernard Zahm, loving husband, father, papa, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 83 in the comfort of his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was a devoted husband to Cathy, with whom he shared 57 beautiful years of marriage with – a lifetime built on love, loyalty and partnership.
Born on March 27th, 1942, in Joliet, Illinois to Bernard and Dorothy Zahm. Wayne was known for his kindness, strength and love for his family and friends. In 1961 after graduating from High School, he joined the United States Air Force where he spent 21 years as a Special Equipment Operator flying in the back of a C-130 airplane collecting air samples.
In 1981, Wayne went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from the Rollins College and he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. He spent the next 30 years as an accountant working as a Government Contractor at the Kennedy Space Center and Rocky Flats Environmental Site.
In 2012 he retired from work where he continued his love for the outdoors and volunteering for VOC (Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado). He spent over 30 years volunteering for this organization and talked about it even in his last days.
Above all, Wayne cherished his family. A devoted husband, a loving father to his only daughter, Michelle and a proud papa to his 2 grandchildren, Katelyn and Austin. His love was constant, his guidance unwavering and his support endless.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Cathy Zahm, his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Paul Hanson; his grandchildren Katelyn and Austin Hanson and his two younger sisters, Donna Miller and Debbie Allbritton. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bernard and Dorothy Zahm.
He will be missed and loved forever.
Services will be held 10am, Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. An open house reception will follow from 11am until 1pm at Gallo Supper Club and Bakery (3470 S. Broadway, Englewood) following the service.
