Born Friday January 13, 1930 died April 8, 2026 at home in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. He was the founding member and CEO of the food brokerage firm, McFerren, Speakers and Gustafson Food Brokers.
Walt left the University of Illinois to enlist in the Marine Corp. He fought with the marines in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with star and the United Nations Ribbon.
Walt was pre-deceased by his brothers, Richard and Jim. He was also pre-deceased by his sons Mark, Hugh and Timothy.
Walt was a skier, handball player, golfer and world class fly fisherman. He and Helene travelled a great deal in many parts of the world. A long time member of the Denver Country Club, he was also aLifetime Member of the Denver Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife Helene and his two daughters Leslie and Dana as well as a granddaughter, 6 grandsons and 2 little great grandsons.
Mass will be held on Friday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Risen Christ Catholic Church, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy, Denver Co. 80222. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, April 27th at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to either Wounded Warriors Project or The Haven of Hope 1101 W. Seventh Ave, Denver, CO 80204
