Walter Harrison Freehling, 95, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Tendercare Pinehurst facility in Denver, CO. He is survived by daughter Trina Bibbero of Littleton, CO; granddaughter Nikki Bibbero of Denver, CO; sister Leona Barnes of Cabot, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Val Jean Freehling; his parents August and Nora Watson Freehling; his brothers Clarence, Kenneth, and Arthur; and his sisters Lida and Emma.
Born September 8, 1925, in Cabot, PA, he attended Winfield area schools. He served in the US Army during World War II at Ft. Belvoir, VA, as a truck driver.
Before retiring in 1990, he worked 43 years as a truck driver for Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Brackenridge, PA. He also worked part-time as a school bus driver and drove tractor trailer trucks cross country.
He and Val Jean traveled extensively, and treasured their times with family and friends. He was known for his big smile and rosy cheeks and always helping others.
After retirement, Val Jean and Walt moved to Littleton, CO, to be close to their daughter and granddaughter. They enjoyed attending their girls' various school, work, church, and personal functions.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lower Burrell, PA, for many years before moving to Colorado in 2005, and then became a member of St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, CO.
Trisagion service will be Thursday, August 12, at 7:30 PM. Funeral will be Friday, August 13, at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 5555 S. Yosemite Street, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
Burial will be at a later time in North Side Cemetery, Butler, PA.
