Virginia Mae Shriver

1927 – 2018

Virginia Mae Shriver, at the age of 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2018 while living at Eben Ezer Care Center in Brush, CO. She was born March 22, 1927 to John and Helen Petersen of Omaha, NE. Virginia grew up in the Omaha area, graduated from Omaha Tech in May of 1945, and attended Omaha Bible Institute and Milwaukee Bible Institute.

Virginia married Harland Shriver on May 21, 1948 and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage and ministry together before Harland passed away in 2005. Virginia enjoyed being a pastors wife where she could use her many talents to bless others. She sang, played the piano and vibraharp, taught piano lessons, taught Sunday School and Ladies Bible studies, and helped at Western Grace Youth Camp. Virginia touched many lives while working at Campbell Stone Memorial Residence for 20+ years.

Harland & Virginia ministered and taught in various churches in Nebraska, Iowa, California, New Mexico, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Colorado. Because they were open to being used of the Lord, they were able to spend 6 months in the Philippines visiting missionaries and national pastors.

In 1968 Virginia had the privilege of being the lone female to travel with Vernon Anderson and Eldred Sidebottom (TCM) and Ron Vogal (pilot) on a six-week trip to South America in a Piper Cherokee 6. They had to stop every four hours for refueling. They had meetings with different churches and missionaries all along the coast of Brazil. She loved talking about this amazing adventure.

In recent years, Virginia enjoyed the companionship of Gary Mueller who was also a resident of Campbell Stone. He was a devoted friend who took her to appointments, ran errands for her, and enjoyed family activities with her.

Virginia is survived by brother-in-law Wendel Anderson of Omaha, NE, brother-in-law John Shriver and wife Jan of Perth, Australia, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Virginia was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Harland, brother J. Alan Petersen and wife Evelyn, sister Mary Helen Ehresman and husband Wesley, brother Ray Petersen, sister Beverly Sidebottom and husband Eldred, and sister Marilyn Anderson.
