Virginia Mary Scudder

March 1, 1929 — April 4, 2016

Virginia (Ginny) Scudder, 87, was born in Cedar Lake, Indiana on March 1, 1929. She passed into eternal life on April 4, 2016. She married the love of her life, Ken Scudder, February 16, 1949, and their 67 years of marriage painted a picture of true, unconditional love! This amazing relationship is a true inspiration to their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. The stories she told of the depression era, how very little was enough in a loving family, climbing trees, working at the local drug store from the time she was 14 to help support her family, Christmas' that included a new doll, new pair of shoes and a color book were priceless to all of us. Then that ""dapper"" guy from Chicago swept her off her feet at the roller skating rink and she entered the next phase of her life. As they moved through the years, and five children, she was always the one we could count on to make sure we all had everything we needed. Whether it was clothes, information and enrollment for activities, or just a hug, kiss and encouragement, she was always there! Although with 5 children, Ginny and Ken had their share of challenges raising this crew, the support of unconditional love, direction and encouragement always reigned supreme. As the years moved forward and children left home, she found some outside interests and worked at Borg's Children's Cottage and Fashion Bar where she ""came into her own"". She was proud of her accomplishments and, as we all know, she was a sweetheart to everyone and finally found acknowledgement for her abilities … not as a wife or mother, but as her own person. She and Dad loved traveling, cruising, and especially GAMBLING! We all had pictures in our mind of her at a slot machine … rubbing the center line since it was good luck … and being so excited when she would win. The interesting part was that she would drive an extra 15 minutes to a grocery store that had lettuce for 5¢ less a pound! Even in her later years, if they could go ""up the hill"" to Blackhawk, all the kids thought that was a great day since she was feeling well enough to enjoy their favorite thing. A true testimony to her love is her LEGACY! Proceeded in death by father, Michael Schreiber, mother, Helen Schumacher Schreiber Survived by husband: Kenneth Scudder; Children: Judith Simon (Nick Simon, deceased), Patricia Schaefer (Neil), Kenneth Scudder Jr., Keith Scudder (Donna), Amy Smith (Kevin); Grandchildren: Jamene Sucato, Trent Eylens (Cindy), Nickolas Simon (Melissa), Nicholas Schaefer, Emily Schaefer, Candace Nowlin (Roger), Kenny Scudder (Mandy), James Scudder, Andrew Scudder, Nathan Scudder (Mistie), Lindsey Jones (Mike), Brandon Smith (Laura) Great Grandchildren: Amber Klym, Stefen Eylens, Bella Eylens, Amber Brown, Christina Brown, Megan Brown, Brett Brown, Isaac Simon, River Nowlin, Jayden Nowlin, Ava Scudder, Annabelle Scudder , Chase Scudder, Marissa Gallegos, Jairon Scudder, Kennedy Scudder, Eleanor Scudder, Craig Rothfuss, Mikey Rothfuss, Mia Jones, Ayla Jones.
