Virginia Rathbun

Virginia Elaine (Wall) Rathbun passed away, October 12, 2021, at the age of 87. She was a graduate of Haigler High School in Haigler, Nebraska. After graduating she would soon marry her husband, LeRoy Vernon Rathbun. She continued her education to receive an Associate’s Degree. Virginia began her career as a Teacher in a small school house outside of Riley, Kansas. Upon LeRoy’s discharge from the Army, they made their way to Denver, Colorado where they would have their son, Michael Lee then moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where daughter, DeAnna Gay, was born. They moved back to Denver where Virginia became a Principal’s Secretary in the Denver Public Schools for over 30 years before her long and lofty retirement. Virginia moved into Someren Glen where made a large number of friends and made it very clear she did not like the cooking. Here she found new hobbies like warm water therapy, bingo, and knitting class, as well as, being reinvigorated in her Faith.

Mrs. Rathbun was an avid gardener, a Western Film fanatic, lover of dogs who, also, loved knitting for her Great Grandchildren. Virginia has always been steadfast in her Faith and was comforted by her family in her final days. She is survived in death by her daughter, DeAnna Gay. Her sister, Patricia Pickett, and niece, Elaine Lewis. Her four grandsons and their wives, Scott & Angela, Brian & Meghan, Kevin & Alison, Jay and Allie, including her six great grandchildren: Beckett, Cooper, Baylen, Camden, Evie and Mikaela (January 2022). She was preceded in death by husband, LeRoy, and by son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Kim.

Funeral Services will be held in Haigler, Nebraska at the Haigler Cemetary on Wednesday, October 20 at 11 a.m. Burial Services will be private for immediate family.
