Virginia J. Hokenson

February 2, 1938 — May 18, 2025

Arvada, CO

Virginia “Ginny” Jewell Hokenson went peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at home on May 18, 2025 in Arvada, CO. She led a good life but struggled with dementia for the last 4 years.

Born February 2, 1938 in Sheldon, Iowa to John and Sadie Van Aalsburg. She grew up on the family farm, the second of six girls. She attended Country School until eighth grade and then graduated from Sheldon High School. Ginny then went to nursing school in Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating she moved to Denver and secured a nursing position at Presbyterian Hospital.

Ginny met Byron while being his nurse after a small operation. They married on September 8, 1961 and were joyfully married for 63 years. They were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, now Community of Grace, and were always active in the church community.

Ginny was thankful for a loving God who gave us His Son so we may have eternal life. She loved her family. She enjoyed the mountains, camping, wildlife watching, butterflies, hiking, gardening and flowers. She volunteered at The Butterfly Pavilion for 20 years. She enjoyed vacations with her family, and Byron and Ginny took wonderful vacations with their trailer. They also enjoyed a trip to Fiji for the their 40th Wedding Anniversary.

Survived by husband, Byron Hokenson; son Steve (Monica) Hokansson and daughter Sheila Lynn; sisters Faith (Larry) Parmer and Rosie Turner; brothers-in-law Jerry Koerselman and Ken Fedders and numerous nieces and nephews.
