Virginia Bertha Atencio, 99, of Arvada, CO, passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2026. She was born on March 15th, 1927, in Fort Garland, CO, to Alberto and Josefa Atencio. A devout Catholic, Virginia Acevedo lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to God.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived it daily through her selflessness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to the Rosary. Whether she was helping family or simply praying for those in need, her gentle spirit touched everyone who had the fortune to know her for almost a century. She dreamed of being a nun in her early years, but God had a different path for her, one that would lead her to having two children, a grandchild and two great-grandkids. She made sure to “bless” every person she talked to, even in the end days. For 99 years, God’s love shined through her.
She is survived by her daughter Celina, son Earl, granddaughter Tamara and her great grandchildren Brenden and Celeste.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, and many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held on July 14th from 10:00 to 10:30 am followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 AM at the Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Church at 7555 Grant Place Arvada, CO 80002. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated starting at 11:00 am at the church.
Burial services will follow at 1:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO 80236.
A reception luncheon will be held at Los Arcos Mexican Restaurant 4991 W. 80th Ave. Westminster, CO 80030 at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Celina Tozer. They will be placed into a college fund for great-grandchildren Brenden and Celeste.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon Virginia.
