The Reverend Vernon Ernest Oestmann, 68, was called to his eternal home on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Born on January 2, 1948, in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was a resident of Aurora, Colorado. He attended Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, and received his Masters of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in 1974. His vicarage was at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vancouver, BC, Canada. He served the following Lutheran congregations: St. John's, Hannibal, MO; Trinity, Garden City, KS; Trinity, Mission, KS; and Bethany, Vacaville, CA. He retired in 2014. He also served the church-at-large as circuit counselor, Kansas District Board of Directors, and many different community organizations. Pastor Oestmann was a great man of faith, who loved to preach and teach. His compassionate spirit was well demonstrated during his entire ministry and life. Hobbies included golf, fishing, model railroading, bowling, music, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debby; sons; Andrew, Aurora, CO; David (Ericka), Highlands Ranch, CO; Philip (Lyndsi), Stilwell, KS; and Timothy, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren; Taylor, Elisabeth, Adrienne, and Smith; and brother, Marvin (Sharon) Oestmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha Oestmann. The service celebrating his Resurrected life will be held at Our Father Lutheran Church, 6335 South Holly Street, Centennial, CO 80121 on Wednesday, January 27, at 11:00 am, with viewing beginning at 10:00 am. Memorials may be made to the Donald F. Hinchey Scholarship Fund in care of the church.
