Valerie Hubbard Brown was born on March 1, 1949 in Houston Texas to Carter Kirven Hubbard and Jean Solomon Hubbard and left this earth on October 18, 2026. She grew up in a very happy home with her parents and younger sister, Peggy, and excelled in school and extracurricular activities. Valerie had a very quizzical and intelligent mind and loved to read books on a wide variety of subjects. She was completely enthralled with C. S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower books and movies, Ian Fleming’s James Bond series, Robert Crais’ Elvis Cole books, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher stories, the Nelson DeMille books and many more. Valerie loved British history and TV, the State of Texas and everything it means to be a Texan, crocheting and sewing, understanding the Japanese culture, and K-Pop…very diverse interests.
When Valerie followed in her father’s and aunt’s footsteps and attended Stephen F. Austin High School (1964 to 1967), she became a member of the Scottish Brigade and found a very special, life-long love of the Brigade’s comradery, loyalty and showmanship. She was a member of the Bagpipe Corps and later became Adjutant Major for the Bagpipe and Flag Corps. She lived and breathed tartan plaid for three years and cherished the experience her whole life. After high school Valerie attended the University of Houston and received a degree in Latin and English.
Valerie worked in the legal profession for most of her adult life. In her 20s she became a legal secretary and ended her 50-year career as a Patent Paralegal at the age of 75. She couldn’t imagine her life without working, but she did enjoy three years of retirement prior to her death.
Valerie married Wayne Brown and became the proud mother of Douglas Hubbard Brown in January 1981. Douglas was her most precious accomplishment in life and she was proud of him every day and in every way. Her second most precious life experience was when Doug and his wife Emily were blessed with two wonderful sons…Benjamin Michael and Jackson Alexander. Valerie’s strong relationships with Doug, Emily, Ben and Jack, as well as her loving sister Peggy, are her one major regret in leaving this earth before she was able to see the family continue on.
Valerie is preceded in death by Carter Hubbard (father), Jean Hubbard (mother), Janelle Smith (aunt), Rue Smith (uncle), Bobby Solomon (uncle), Lynn Solomon (aunt), Juanita Sweatman (aunt), Bobby Sweatman (uncle), Rob Solomon (cousin), Todd Smith (cousin), Phyllis Sulcer (cousin). Surviving her passing are Peggy Hubbard (sister); Douglas Brown (Emily), (son); and cousins Carol Foster, Jim Solomon, Shari McCormack, Nita Jean Thomas, with very special friends Rachel Kahane and Pearl Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, Valerie would be honored, if you are able, by contributions to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. With many family members who served in the military, Valerie was loyal to the American Flag, The United States of America and all who served through the various branches of the Military as well as all First Responders.
