Life is full of meetings and partings, some sweet and some bitter, but all have their purpose in our lives.
Ursula Elfrieda Zahn, 92 years young, passed away on December 10, 2023 at Littleton Hospital.
Born October 16, 1931 in Guben, a small town in Germany, she was the eldest of 2 children. She spent her younger years dodging the bombs of WWII and raising her younger sister. After primary school, she attended business school and worked hard to help support her family. She was 22 when, after receiving a letter from Helmut asking her to leave Germany, come to Canada, and be his bride, she hopped on an ocean liner for the unknown. She knew it was meant to be, however, when she ended up in the wrong town but, somehow, Helmut knew where to find her and was there to pick her up. They were married on December 26, 1953. In October 1954 she became a first-time mother when she gave birth to her son, Peter. Two years later, in August 1956, she had her second son, Ralph. They lived in Canada, Germany, and Illinois until they settled in Colorado in 1978.
Ursula had several hobbies including baking, painting, travel, crocheting, knitting, gardening, cross word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to read romance novels and would go down that spicy rabbit hole for hours on end. She loved looking at the stars, making animals out of the clouds, and interpreting her dreams. Her favorite pastime though was spoiling her cat, Felix.
Ursula was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her two sons and their families, Peter, Kristine, Nicole, and Gabriel, her great grandson, the Colorado clan, and Ralph, Peg, Whitney, and Riley, the Wisconsin clan.
She was, as Gabriel put it, a "gem". She will be greatly missed by everyone who's life she touched.
Ursula's Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on January 29, 2024, at Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado.
