Timothy Charles McFarlen

August 14, 1967 — October 21, 2014

Timothy Charles McFarlen was born August 14th, 1967 in Seattle, Washington. In 1969 he moved with his mother Kathy, and father Gary to New Brighton, MN. In 1970 and 1971 respectively he gained a brother Michael and sister Katie. Although diagnosed with Type one Diabetes at 16 months of age Tim loved spending time outdoors, especially at the family's cabin in rural Minnesota. In 1979 the family moved to Dallas, Texas and Tim became active in Boy Scouts. Shortly after, in 1981 Tim moved with the family to Denver, Colorado. Education and family life were most important through the 80's and Tim entered early adulthood. After trying several different jobs, Tim decided to attend Colorado Aero Tech and earned an airframe and powerplant certification. Jobs were slim in the aviation industry and Tim chose to move to Gillete, WY and got a job as a heavy equipment mechanic at the Cordero coal mine. He moved through the ranks and eventually became a heavy equipment operator, his true calling. Tim loved operating all manner of the gigantic machines used in the coal mining industry. He expanded his career when he moved to Craig, CO and accepted a position at the Colowyo coal mine just outside of town. He loved his career and was able to use his free time to camp and hunt in the great outdoors of Northwestern Colorado. As Tim's health began to decline he had to leave Craig and move to Castle Rock, Colorado to be near to the doctors and facilities that would prove to enhance his life. Tim received a kidney and pancreas transplant in June of 2006, a gift that he would appreciate for the rest of his life. Tim spent the final years of his life accompanying his father to Mesa, AZ for the winter after Gary lost his wife of 45 years, Kathy. Tim passed away on October, 21st 2014 at 12:45 P.M. at Porter Adventist Hospital. His life was one of strength, humor, and friendship. He always wore a smile and had a quick wit that drew others to him. Please share your memories of Tim and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook below.
