Timothy C. Johnson, 82, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, in his home in Denver, Colorado. A service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11am at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4pm at Washington Park.
Tim was born in Chicago, IL on February 28, 1943, to James Maurice Johnson and Dorothy Emmaline Hackett. He was the eldest of seven children.
Tim moved to Durango, Colorado where he attended college and met and married Claire Pulliam. Tim and Claire were revolutionary before it was popular, marrying at a time when interracial marriages were risky and in many places illegal. Their daughter Tiffany (Buffy) made front page news as the first interracial child born in the small town of Durango, Colorado. They also attended many protests and marches in support of the Civil Rights and Anti-War movements. Tim and Claire have remained close.
In the early 80s, Tim was introduced to Kathleen Johnson by his sister Jantha, sparking a deep and natural connection. Their bond quickly grew into a loving partnership, and Tim soon embraced Kathleen’s daughter, Latrice, eventually adopting her as his own. Tim and Kathleen shared a love for the stars, singing together in the Spiritual Project Choir and celebrating Native traditions at the Denver March Powwow. They often found peace and renewal during their trips to Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe, NM. Their life together was filled with deep meaning—a beautiful reflection of Tim’s generous spirit and open heart.
For the last 12 years, Tim was dedicated to helping others in his position at UCHealth (University of Colorado) Hospital as a Patient and Visitor Liaison. He left an everlasting impression with everyone he encountered, whether it be a co-worker, patient or visitor.
Tim was an accomplished astrologer and gifted actor. He earned honorable mention in the local papers for his work in Crossroad Theater's A Soldier’s Play and received a nomination for Best Actor in Shadow Theater’s production of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.
Tim was preceded in death by his sister Jantha Johnson and both parents. Tim is survived by his life mate Kathleen Johnson, daughters: Tiffany Glasper (Will) and Latrice Johnson, grandchildren: William, Jordan, Jade, Jasmine and Symone, siblings: Pamela, Mark, Tina, Michael and Kathleen, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and hundreds of friends.
Tim was known and loved by many, many people. He will be remembered for his love of music, authentic and curious spirit, his beautiful smile and wonderfully contagious laugh.
