Obituary

Thomas Edward Wamsley was born December 6, 1945, in Stromsburg, Nebraska, to John Edward Wamsley and Daloris Jean Russell. Tom passed away peacefully at his home on February 22, 2026, after a long illness.

In the summer of 1946, the family moved to Strasburg, Colorado. Tom later attended school in Denver. On March 10, 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably before beginning a long career of service to his community. He joined the Littleton Fire Department, where he faithfully served for 27 years as a firefighter and paramedic.

Tom met the love of his life, Joan, at the Western Welcome Street Dance. They were married on March 21, 1978, beginning a partnership that would span nearly 48 years.

Tom loved fishing and camping with family and friends. Sometimes a fishing trip simply meant visiting a nearby pond with young children, catching sunfish with a can of corn for bait. Fishing was often followed by a well-earned nap in his favorite recliner—though it rarely lasted long before a child would place a book in his lap and say, “Read, Daddy.” Those simple moments, often with one or two children curled up beside him, became some of Tom’s most treasured memories.

He especially loved supporting his children in all their activities—attending school programs, plays, and peewee sports games all the way through college competitions. Tom cherished quiet family time and enjoyed game nights, movie nights, and backyard gatherings filled with laughter.

Tom was proud of his son John, the thespian of the family, and enjoyed both John’s culinary creations and his work in the business world.

Tom also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, mentoring many young scouts as they worked toward advancing in rank. He was especially proud of his son Dustin, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later followed in his father’s footsteps as a paramedic and firefighter.

Tom beamed with pride when he watched his only daughter, Cristina, walk across the stage to receive both her undergraduate and master’s degrees. He admired her determination as she pursued postgraduate studies while raising her daughters and excelling in her career. To Tom, however, Cristina would always be “my little girl.”

A deeply social person, Tom thrived on conversation and connection. He loved sharing stories about his family and adventures, telling “dad jokes,” and laughing with those around him. His greatest joy was cheering on his children and grandchildren in all their pursuits—a devotion that never wavered.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years and 11 months, Joan; his sons John and Dustin (Morgan) Zoey 17, Alex 7 of Colorado; his daughter Cristina, Mikayla 17, Kimberly 14 of Wyoming his cherished family.. He is also survived by his sister, Marcia of Colorado, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to friends, neighbors, and caregivers for their kindness, compassion, and support during this difficult time. Your love and care mean more than words can express.
