Thomas S Scott, 79, of Aurora, died at home on July 28, 2023 after a long illness. Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Alexander Scott and Eleanor Nemeth. The Scott’s brought Tom and his big brother Fred to Colorado when Tom was 9 months old. We have decided that pretty much makes him a native. They eventually settled into a small house on the west side of Lowry Air Force Base and stayed there for 50 years. Tom spent many days fishing and hunting with his Dad and uncles. He attended St. James Elementary School and was in the first graduating class of Machebeuf High School in 1962. He received an associate degree in Credit Management from Community College of Denver. Tom met Nancy Deats in the fall of 1964 and they were married in October of 1965. Tom worked for the Safeway store at 38th and Lowell until he enlisted in the Air Force in May of 1966. He was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi where, unfortunately, he faced a diagnosis of cancer in August of that year. He received treatment in San Antonio and was temporarily medically retired in 1967. In 1970 he was permanently medically retired from the Air Force. Tom held a variety of jobs after he returned home including Dictaphone Corporation and May D & F. He was hired by Van Waters and Rogers in 1971 and stayed with them as they became Univar Corporation. He became the operations manager of their office in Denver. When that division was closed in 1989 he joined the Denver Mint as an accountant and remained there until his retirement in 2012. Tom was devoted to his family and his faith. He enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren and he spent many hours in the stands while cheering for his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. Tom was greatly admired and respected for how bravely he dealt with many illnesses and health issues throughout his life. Doctors and nurses called him Superman. He never knew how to say “uncle”
Tom and Nancy moved to Heritage Eagle Bend in January of 2002 and quickly enjoyed the active adult life there and the many friendships they built with their new neighbors. Tom is father to Jennie Scott Snyder (Ed) and Amanda Scott Williams (Robbie). His favorite people were his grandchildren: Alexis Snyder Henriquez (Oscar) 29, Logan Snyder (25), Mikayla Snyder (24), Bryce Williams (21) and Ashlyn Williams (19). He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Fred Scott. Numerous nieces and nephews are included in his family.
Donations may be made in Tom's memory to Greccio Housing, 1015 E. Pikes Peak Ave. #110, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
