Thomas P. McAndrews, "Tom," "Tommy," "Santa Tom" of Aurora, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2026. He was 78 years old.
He was born on June 6, 1947 in New York, New York. He was raised by his mother Virginia Fonovich McAndrews and father Thomas J. McAndrews; after Thomas Sr. died when Tom was young he was raised by his father James B. O'Brien. He was the oldest sibling of 5, with his brothers David and Lawrence, and sisters Virginia O'Brien Brahy and Susan O'Brien Lerch. He was a proud graduate of St. John's Prep, later obtaining his BS degree in Accounting from Fordham University and a MS in Public Administration from University of Colorado Denver. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he left the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant with the Military Police in August 1971. He married his wife, the late Celia Fitzsimons, in December 1971, and started his career as a Special Agent in the US Treasury Department the following year. His two children, Thomas M. and Christine, were born in 1974 and 1975 respectively. The family moved from New Jersey to Englewood, CO in 1977, and have resided in Colorado ever since.
Thomas retired from being a Special Agent in 1998. He kept himself busy before retirement with Boy Scouts of America, and post-retirement being a lecturer at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. However, his enduring legacy is the 35 years he spent as a professional Santa Claus, creating happy memories for thousands of children and families along the way.
Tom is survived by his son Thomas M. McAndrews and his wife Kim of Centennial, CO, grandchildren Bradan and Rowan; his daughter Christine Scheu and her husband Michael Scheu of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by his brother David McAndrews and his wife Ann McAndrews, his sister Virginia O'Brien and her husband Michael Brahy, his sister Susan Lerch and her husband Scott Lerch and his sister-in-law Linda McAndrews. He was preceded in passing by his wife Celia Fitzsimons McAndrews and his parents Thomas J. McAndrews, Virginia Fonovich McAndrews O'Brien, and James B. O'Brien, as well as his brother Lawrence McAndrews
