Thomas Frank Johnson, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandfather passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by his family at the age of 74. Tom was born in Denver, Colorado to adoptive parents Thomas J. and Florine Johnson, who loved and cared for him deeply.
He grew up in North Aurora, Colorado, and was a graduate of Aurora Central High School Class of 1969; a class containing friends of whom he still kept in close contact with. Later Tom moved to Greeley, Colorado and attended the University of Northern Colorado where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity. During his time at the university, he was hired by Mountain Bell and left school to start his career with the phone company. While at school Tom became smitten with one of his fraternity brothers, Bill Blick’s sister, Mary.
In 1974, he married Mary Agnes Blick in Roggen, Colorado. They had two sons, Matthew and Aaron. In 1984, the family moved to Aurora, CO where Tom was promoted to Budget Administrator for US West telecommunications, where he worked until he retired.
Tom was an avid fisherman and went on countless fishing trips with his sons and his band of fishing buddies to some of his favorite places like Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, Lake Texoma in Texas and various spots in Colorado, namely, the Poudre Canyon and Taylor Lake. He was also a loyal Denver Broncos and CU Buffs fan. However, one of the greatest joys of his life was becoming a Papa to his three granddaughters. He loved stopping by their house and surprising them with candy bars every Saturday.
Although Tom’s health suffered in his final years, he still held true to the kindness and playful nature that endeared him to everyone who knew him throughout his life.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Matthew and Aaron; daughter-in-law Emily; and granddaughters Hannah, Madison, and Chloe. He is also survived by several siblings, cousins, and many friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10:30am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic church located at 19099 E Floyd Ave, Aurora, CO 80013, with a reception to follow at the parish.
