Thomas Allen ""Hoggie"" DeGerlia

Thomas Allen ""Hoggie"" DeGerlia, accomplished artist, chef, and entrepreneur, died peacefully the morning of Saturday, November 15 after a six-month struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67 years old. Mr. DeGerlia was a champion and fierce defender of the underdog and personal freedom. His many accomplishments include attending University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business on academic scholarship, becoming a master silk-screener that produced many fine works of art, studying as a chef and ultimately running a successful restaurant. He loved to fish, was a baseball (Colorado Rockies) fanatic, and in his lifetime read close to ten-thousand books. In recent years, he was a leader in the Denver freegan and homeless communities. Mr. DeGerlia is survived by his father, Thomas Edwin DeGerlia of Alton, IL., his son Thomas Damon DeGerlia of Lakewood, CO. and grandsons Thomas Charles DeGerlia and Abraham Nelson DeGerlia of Lakewood, CO. In addition, his brother Danial William Degerlia of Johnstown, CO., and nephews Mathew Danial DeGerlia and William Savidge DeGerlia of Longmont, CO. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 1:00PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard(Speer and Federal), Denver, CO. A reception will follow the memorial services.
