Tom Bell, age 80, passed away on September 25, 2026.
Tom was born on October 7, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to Tom and Florine Bell. From an early age, he developed the warmth, generosity, and sense of humor that would become his trademarks throughout his life.
Tom attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated as a Wolverine and remained a passionate, unwavering U of M fan. Whether it was football season or simply a conversation about his alma mater, he never missed an opportunity to proudly declare, "Go Blue!"
Tom married his love, Judith Prescott on November 9, 1974. Together they built a wonderful Colorado life centered on family, friendship, and countless cherished memories for nearly 52 years.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Judy; their three sons, Tom and wife Cassidy, Jeff and wife Melissa, and Mike and wife Cassie. His (6) grandchildren lovingly called him Poppy and they were his pride and joy – Emma and Tommy, Lydia and Eli, Kaylyn and Blake. Tom is also survived by his brother and lifelong best friend, Rich and wife Jan, his niece Erin Weston, his nephew Chris Bell and their families.
After college, Tom made Colorado his home and had a special love for the mountains. He also loved the music of John Denver and the Beach Boys, whose songs often provided the soundtrack to family gatherings, road trips and camping adventures – delivering treasured family memories.
Tom dedicated his career to education and public service, retiring as the Director of Planning for Douglas County Schools. He took great pride in his work and in helping shape opportunities for future generations of students and families throughout the community.
More than anything, Tom loved being with family and friends. He was truly the life of the party, bringing laughter, stories, and joy wherever he went. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Those who knew Tom will remember his kind heart, quick wit, infectious smile, and unwavering willingness to help others. Family and friends knew that if they needed him, he would drop everything to be there.
Tom had an infinitely strong belief in others and their limitless potential. His grandchildren were the focused recipients of this belief time after time. He was their biggest fan and champion.
Tom's greatest legacy is the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the example he set through his generosity, compassion, and selflessness. While his family and many devoted friends mourn his passing, they take comfort in the countless memories he created and the enduring impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Tom will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
