Betty Ann Scott (Ladehoff) was born on May 3, 1937 in Manilla, Iowa. She was the fifth of 8 children - Arlene, Robert, Rita, Esther, Betty, JoAnn, Lorraine, and Darlene. She loved talking about her childhood exploits - using a basket attached to the barn as a make-shift hoop, being chased by the family cow, and running uptown to work at the local butcher and grocery shop. In high school, she was lead scorer on her half-court basketball team and a model student. Later, after moving to Denver, she married her workplace and lifetime sweetheart Thomas Pickett Scott, Jr. (Tom) on October 15, 1960 after a previous marriage to Bernard Worley.
While raising her children, Betty played softball, bowled and also was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Later, she worked as a secretary for the Adams 12 School District. Her 40s brought a career change to that of a registered nurse after earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Metro State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She then worked at Lutheran Hospital where she eventually retired.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with and talking about her grandchildren and great grandchild. She was known as the “All American Grandma” who cooked, baked, sewed, finished furniture, camped, decorated, and gardened. Following are her eleven grandchildren, both Scotts and Fountains: Amy, Andrea, Allen, Allison, Kristina, Avery, Thomas Jr, Andrew T, Abigail, Anna, and Aidan. Spouses and partners include Jonathan Farrington, Chelsea Shonka, Kevin Lofstedt and Meagan Beasley married or belonging to in order: Amy, Allen, Andrea, and Thomas Jr. Great grandchild Emma Iris was born August 14th, 2025 to Amy and Jonathan.
Betty enjoyed worshipping at Peace Lutheran church and was thankful for pastoral and elder visits when she could no longer attend. Betty passed peacefully in her home on March 4, 2026.
Tom was born on August 14, 1930 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio with a degree in Economics and then attended the University of Tennessee after which he was drafted during the Korean War. Once he was discharged from the Army, he hitchhiked to Colorado and then met Betty when they both worked at Trailways Bus Station. Western Federal Savings & Loan eventually became his job for twenty-five years where he rose to the position of vice president.
He was a voracious reader, especially of books on World War II and presidential biographies - George Washington being his favorite. He played golf in the Scotch tradition, hunted mule-deer in the Rockies, weight-lifted, and bicycled well into his eighties. His favorite activity in his later years was lawn-mowing, which included breaks to drink the family’s famous homemade iced tea.
Tom enjoyed attending Peace Lutheran church with his wife, and when his children were young, made sure they got to and from Sunday school. Tom passed peacefully in their home on September 24, 2020 after his wife and nurse Betty had cared for him for many months.
Betty and Tom are survived by their three children and spouses; Corey L. Scott, Thomas G. Scott and wife Rena Patterson, and Ann T. Fountain and former husband Andrew G.
