Thomas Ahern, October 15, 2024
Thomas Norman Ahern passed away on October 15th, 2024, surrounded by family in Lakewood, Colorado at the age of 78.
Tom is survived by his children, Theresa Ahern of Springfield, MO, Ken Ahern (and wife Sarah) of Lakewood, CO, and his partner, Martha Ahern. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel K and Mildred (Castle) Ahern, and his three brothers, Daniel “Boone”, Michael “Bill”, and Keith Ahern.
Tom graduated in 1965 from Buffalo high school and received BS and MBA degrees from the University of Wyoming.
Tom also served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1973. During his time in the Army, he completed Ranger school, served in Vietnam, and was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
Tom spent his career working in the banking industry in multiple small towns in Wyoming and Colorado. He appreciated the opportunity to support individuals and small businesses with a small town touch.
Tom’s passions included camping and fly fishing. His favorite summers were when he spent a total of at least 30 nights camping. He camped and fished throughout Wyoming, including in the Big Horns. He also enjoyed two memorable fishing trips to New Zealand. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and supporter of the Wyoming Cowboys. Tom was an avid poker player specializing in Texas Hold’em and played in numerous tournaments, including the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, NV.
Tom had many great friends throughout his life and expressed his desire for his family and friends to come together and tell “Tom” stories. A remembrance gathering will be held in spring 2025 in Buffalo, Wyoming.
