Theora McVay

April 12, 1949 — September 26, 2025

Theora was born April 12th,1949, in Kansas City, MO to Helen and Guy and she was the younger sibling to James and Jan. The family was very close and this was a sustaining force throughout Theora’s life.

It was clear from a young age that Theora was tenacious and smart. She excelled in school earning a full scholarship to the University of Kanas where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors.

Born into a family of artists, it was only natural that Theora’s path would be a creative one. After graduating from college, Theora combined her artistic skills with her entrepreneurial talents to create several businesses including Colorado People Magazine, Mall Marketing, Value Mortgage & Associates, and Theora’s Art.

Theora became a mother in 1974 to her daughter and only child, Kimberly. When Kimberly was six, Theora became a single mother. Through good and challenging times, Theora figured out how to care for and provide for her daughter. Theora and Kimberly were deeply bonded - not only mother and daughter, but also best friends.

In 1987, Theora met the love of her life, Steven McVay. Steve became a loving father figure to Kimberly and he was a wonderful and supportive husband to Theora until her passing. Happily married for 38 years, Theora and Steve meant the world to one another.

Theora was truly a one of a kind. Whether she was sporting her own fashion designs, learning to play the drums at the age 40 or creating original art, she lived a full life that was truly her own. She will be remembered for her sweetness, creativity, independence, intelligence, beauty, and her fiery spirit. There is not a day that will go by that Theora will not be deeply missed.

Theora is survived by her husband Steve, daughter Kimberly and son-in-law Hank.
