Susie Atencio

Susanna Sedalia Atencio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 8th, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.  She was born on July 31, 1933 in Wheatland, Wyoming to John and Antonia Sanchez.  She was affectionately called Susie by everyone that knew her, and she knew no strangers.  Susie was the middle child of thirteen siblings, raised in Denver, Colorado.  Susie married the love of her life, George Atencio, on June 24, 1951.  George and Susie met in high school, and Susie was attracted to George because he was cute, a good dancer and had his own car.  Together they enjoyed dancing, traveling abroad, visiting family, and volunteer charity work.  They were dedicated to their church and Catholic faith.  Together they had two sons, George and Christopher, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Family was very important to George and Susie.  At weddings, they led the Wedding March, and proudly attended school performances, sporting events, and dance recitals.  Susie loved to cook and bake, and was well-known for chicken enchiladas, cinnamon rolls and wedding cakes.  Susie was also known to enjoy a margarita or 7 & 7 while gambling in Blackhawk, or playing card games, including Phase 10, with her grandkids.  She was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Rockies and watched many games over the years.

Susie is preceded in death by her husband, George, siblings, John, Mary, Lena, Rudy, and Arlene.  Susie is survived by her siblings, Priscilla, Celia, Erma, Bobby, Sandra, Tim, and Steve, her sons, George (div. Linda), Christopher (m. Lisa), grandchildren, Allison (m. Andrew), Elizabeth, Rebecca (m. Freddy), Megan (m. Dwayne), Erin (m. Austin), Zachary, Anna (m. Kevin), John, and great-grandchildren, Clara, AJ, Nathan, Josie, Kaylynn, Carter, Parker, and Axl.
