Susan Rossiter

August 7, 1944 — June 14, 2025

Aurora

Susan was born August 7th, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. Chester and Anna Mae Book had run out of names by the time Susan was born so she was never given a middle name. She had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She grew up in a loving family and helped raise her younger sisters. In her teen years she worked at her father's restaurant, Book’s Cafeteria and Nut House in downtown Des Moines. She attended Roosevelt High School and then headed west to the University of Colorado in Boulder to earn her degree in Education. Her first teaching job was in Boulder, then Kullerstrand Elementary in Jefferson County.

While teaching at Kullerstrand, Susan met her future husband Frederick Evans Rossiter. Fred was a buyer for the Denver Dry Goods.

They were soon married and started a family. Shannon Rossiter came first followed by Katy Rossiter. Susan insisted on being a "stay at home mom" to raise her two daughters. Fred had left the retail business and became a Realtor, Real Estate Appraiser and Custom Home builder. After Shannon and Katy left the nest, Susan resumed teaching at Running Creek Elementary School in Elizabeth, Colorado where she ended her 26 year teaching career. Fred and Susan resided in Parker, Colorado.

They moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 2005 and spent 13 adventurous years there before returning to Denver to watch their 3 grandchildren Finley, Sawyer, and Blythe grow up.

By all accounts their marriage was a 55 year love affair, “until death do us part”.

Susan is survived by her husband Fred and daughters Shannon and Katy.

At the request of the family, there will be no funeral or memorial services. Susan’s cremains will be scattered in a grove of Aspen somewhere in the Colorado Mountains.
