Susan Amada Abeyta Corrigan, age 88, passed away at her home in Denver, CO on July 11, 2021 surrounded by her three children.
Susan was born October 25, 1932 on a small family farm in Tiffany, CO to Jose Amado and Maria Josefita Abeyta. She graduated from Durango High School and later went to work for a radiologist in Santa Fe, NM to apprentice as an x-ray technician. She took her practicum at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe and obtained her x-ray technician national certification. She went on to work in the field for the entirety of her career, primarily at a family practice in Wheatridge, CO for over 30 years and retired in 1997.
She spent most of her life in Colorado, but also lived in New Mexico, California and Michigan. California is where she met her husband, John (“Jack”) Paul Corrigan, and they were married for nearly 60 years. Susan was a long-time member of St. Dominic’s Parish, served on the tithing committee, volunteered at the Denver Aquarium and for Project Salvador. Susan loved flowers, travel, theater, the occasional trip to the casino and hosting large dinners for family and friends who feasted on her famous green chili.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Corrigan; her children Eric Corrigan, Maureen Heim and Jennifer Stolpmann; her grandchildren Rachael Germain and Kevin Heim, James, Emily and Thomas Corrigan, Christopher, Andrew and Luke Stolpmann; her great grandson Jace Germain; her younger sister, Josephine Morrill; as well as close to one hundred nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Gabriel, Mark, Charles, and Frank Abeyta and her sisters Sister Mary Rose Abeyta and Louise Chavez.
Services will be held on Friday, July 23rd at St. Dominic Parish located at 2905 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO. The services will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation, rosary, litany, and eulogy, followed by a mass of Christian burial to begin at 11:00 a.m. Please join us in a celebration of Susan’s life.
