Steven Bruce Wyatt, 71, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, due to complications from Parkison's and Alzheimer's diseases. For the past six years he was lovingly cared for by the staff at Shalom Park Nursing Home and Elder Community and was under the compassionate care of Denver Hospice prior to his passing.
Born in Pueblo, CO on January 6, 1954, Steve was a state champion swimmer with the City Park Dolphins swim team and was a member of Pueblo South High School's varsity basketball team. He graduated from Pueblo South in 1972 and went on to graduate from the University of Colorado in 1976 with a degree in Business. After leaving Colorado to work for Armstrong Flooring in North Carolina for a short time, Steve moved to Grand Junction where he ran the Chamber of Commerce's Tourism Bureau and hosted a weekly jazz show on the local national public radio station. Eventually, Steve transferred to the Denver Chamber of Commerce and then transitioned into working with his passion, which was all things related to music and audio equipment. This led him to Listen Up and Bang & Olufson, where he cultivated lifelong friendships with coworkers and clients. For several years, Steve was an important part of a classical music festival in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where he designed and set up the sound system. As a side note, Steve was on the forefront of technology when he purchased one of the first car phones (ala James Bond), which he used for sales calls while he was driving.
Steve's deep desire for independence and interpersonal connection combined with his handyman and problem-solving skills ultimately led him to property management and maintenance. He spent several years managing and maintaining properties for Charles Anderson in Capitol Hill before moving to Cornerstone, one of the largest property management firms in the Denver area. Known affectionately by some as "Schneider" from the 1975-84 television sitcom One Day at a Time, Steve took great pride in his work and loved helping others every day.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lenore Wyatt of Pueblo and cousins Larry Snider and Gary Snider. He is survived by his sister, Paula (Rich) Lile and their children Jacob and Kelli, brother Marty Wyatt and his children Maverick and Paige (Ernan) Villela, along with cousins Terry (DeeAnna) Snider, Greg (Carole) Rude, Ken (Allison) Rude, Diane Rude and Mary Lou (Brian) Ochalek. Throughout his life, Steve surrounded himself with friends who also became his family, notably Janice Cover Johnson and Cristy Reid, who cared for him when he could no longer care for himself.
Steve will be remembered for so many things. He loved to cook and entertain his friends and found any excuse to gather people together. He created playlists to commemorate special occasions, sharing and introducing friends to the music he loved - opera, classical, jazz, rock & roll, folk and standards from the 50's and 60's. He was a fan of great performances, music festivals, live and recorded music -- basically anything to do with music. Steve's knowledge of music was encyclopedic, and he loved nothing more than sharing his passion with others.
A memorial service and reception will take place at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial, CO at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025. In Steve's memory, donations to the Steve Wyatt Music Scholarship Fund at CU Boulder can be made Here (type D-0036551 or Steve Wyatt Music Scholarship Fund in the Designation Box), or to Shalom Park Nursing Home and Elder Community Here.
