Steven Marshall Matthews, 76, of Parker, CO, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He was born the oldest of three children to Jimmie and Jane (Amberson) Matthews, July 22, 1949 in Ada, OK.
Steve married the love of his life, Ann Matthews, on January 29, 1971 in Tulsa, OK. After graduating from Nathan Hale HS in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1967-1973 as an EM2, E-5 (Electricians Mate 2nd). and was on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He received the “First Good Conduct” medal, the “National Defense Service” medal, the “Vietnam Service” medal, and the “RVN Campaign” medal with device. Steve spent several years exploring the world via this massive nuclear aircraft carrier. After his discharge in ‘73, he and Ann moved to Arlington, TX where he attended the University of Texas at Arlington on the GI Bill. There he received his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he began his career in the oil business.
Steve and Ann moved to El Paso, TX working for Dowell Oil Field Services. They would move several more times throughout his career. From being in the oil fields, and slowly growing in knowledge, he climbed the ranks and would be promoted within the company many times over. This took him to Paris and the Netherlands, where he and Ann would live for seven years. During which time he would travel throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa for work, but also doing a lot of personal traveling with Ann to many more countries. When dad retired from Schlumberger Oil Field Services, he knew all the ins and outs of the business. However, he quickly realized he wasn’t ready for retirement, so he began working for Pioneer Natural Resources in Midland, TX where he finally finished his oil career and officially re-retired in 2018.
Steve led a life that many would only dream about. He was able to work so that Ann could stay home and raise their two children, Josh and Melissa. There were many moves, 30+ houses, and adventures. He made sure that Ann and the children were always taken care of and never had to go without.
