Steven “Doug” Merrill passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, Colorado, on April 8, 2026, at the age of 67.
Doug was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Richard and Patricia (Lee) Merrill and was raised in Lakewood, Colorado. He attended Alameda High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1977. Doug proudly served with the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. He was honorably discharged in 1981.
Following his military service, Doug returned to Colorado, where he built a successful career in the automotive industry. Known for his energetic spirit and constant motion, Doug lived life with determination and enthusiasm.
Eleven years ago, Doug found one of his greatest joys in becoming a “Papa.” He spent much of his time with his granddaughter, Aspen, who became the center of his universe. Doug enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles. In his later years, he volunteered as a train engineer at Tiny Town, a role that brought him great happiness.
Doug met his wife, Cora Shaw, in 1988, and they married in 1993, building a life of adventure.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Cora; his children, Jeremy (Nicole) Merrill and Michele Brown; and his grandchildren, Cadence Merrill and Aspen Skodack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Patricia Merrill, and his siblings, Terry, Susan, and Rick.
Doug will be remembered for his energy, service to his country, and devotion to his family.
