Steven Curt Arbuckle was born February 12, 1959, to Kenneth Leroy Arbuckle and Magdalena Meier Arbuckle in Wiesbaden West Germany. Steve was 65 when God called him home on August 20, 2024. He was a resident of Centennial CO and a member of Our Father Lutheran Church.
Steve is survived by his wife Lori and three sons. Jeff Arbuckle is married to Missy, and they have three sons: Jace, Garhett and Travis. Jeff and his family live in Brighton. Jason lives in Denver. Conrad lives in Centennial. Steve has a sister Gudrun Kabeck in Germany and Aunt Elisabeth Jones in Copperas Cove, TX.
Steve’s father left the family while Steve was still very young. His smother moved often between her family home in West Germany, to Indianola Iowa, or to Colorado Springs, CO. Steve spent every summer with his favorite Aunt Lee and Uncle Clyde and brother James near Indianola, IA. He loved the farm community, stock car races, Iowa’s State Fair, as well as learning to fish and hunt and build things with Uncle Clyde.
At 17, Steve enlisted in the US Army. He did Basic Training in Georgia and was then stationed in Germany because he was fluent in both German and English. He was allowed to finish high school in the Army, and they also provided training as a communications lineman. Steve was also the Company Commander’s Driver, and he would lead the convoy when they moved from one area to another.
After the Army, Steve married Karen Lindsey on January 11, 1986. They had one son, Jeffrey Arbuckle on May 31, 1988, and they lived in Aurora CO. Steve worked for a few trucking companies, built semi-trailers, and was doing a variety of jobs in and around town. Karen and Steve divorced in August 1991.
In the Spring of 1993, Steve was wrapping up his job in Cripple Creek CO wiring and installing the security and surveillance cameras in the newly built casinos. He temporarily moved to Thornton CO where his mother lived. May of 1993, his mother and Lori’s mother, co-workers at the time, set the two up for a blind date and the rest is history. June 18, 1995, Steve married Lori Meier Arbuckle, and they lived in Centennial CO.
Jason Arbuckle was born August 30, 1999, and Conrad Arbuckle was born October 5, 2001. As soon as the boys were old enough to travel, Steve had them at Colorado National Speedway every Saturday night for the car races. Between work, races, sports, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, church activities, camping and fishing trips we were incredibly busy, but Steve was so thankful to be a part of the boys’ lives.
Steve had his own Handyman business for many years and then became the Facilities Manager at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and School. His spinal stenosis was very painful well before he was 50 yrs old, and he had to retire with full disability at that time. He was home to help raise the boys, but his mobility continually dwindled and became more painful. He did what he could, he never complained, his attitude was always positive, and he never scorned God or asked Why Me?, Steve just accepted it with such grace, he knew this was God’s Plan and he was content.
Steve taught us all about patience, grace, endurance, passion and integrity. He was a Gentle Giant of a Man. His trust in God was immense and his love for his family and friends was always obvious. Steve, we will forever miss you, but we rejoice in your pain-free peace with Our Father in Heaven!
