Stephen Byron Maddux passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.
Steve was born on July 22,1969 in Seattle, Washington. After moving from Seattle as a child, Steve was raised in the Denver, Minneapolis, and Kansas City suburbs before settling back in the Denver area during high school, where he first met his wife-to-be, Joely.
Steve graduated from Arapahoe High School and went on to obtain an associate’s degree in Professional Aviation at Aims College in Greeley.
Steve’s career led him to be a pilot with United Airlines, where he then became a flight simulator instructor. This ultimately brought him into the field of technical writing for the aviation and aerospace industries, where his most recent position was with Sierra Nevada Corporation.
Steve described himself as a simple man who liked simple things. He was an avid hiker and enjoyed spending every weekend greeting the sunrise along the Colorado trails and occasionally would bring along his fishing pole. When he wasn’t outside, you could find him playing guitar or enjoying the company of the birds in his backyard.
Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joely, their son, Samuel, his mother, Claire, and his brother, Stu. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard.
