Sister Rita Moriarty, CSJ was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Dan and Theresa Moriarty on January 23, 1944. Sister Rita passed away at the age of 77 on February 18, 2021. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, September 8, 1964 and was a beloved member.
She is survived by her family, Sharon (Doug) Waite, Terry Moriarty, Mary Beth (Stan) Sorrels and sister-in-law Kay (Dan) Moriarty. Rita was preceded in death by her sister, Carol (Ted) Sweeney, and brothers, Dan Moriarty and Rev. Barry Moriarty C.M.
Sister Rita graduated from Fontbonne College and received a Master's degree in Theological Studies from Seattle University. She served as pastoral assistant at St. Francis de Sales parish in Denver for thirty-eight years.
She had many friends as a result of her outgoing personality and sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling and having lunch with friends.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on on Wednesday March 3, 2021 10am at St. Francis de Sales; 300 S Sherman St, Denver, CO 80209. A private interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery; 12801 W. 44th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
