Shirlean Edmonds

August 12, 1946 — March 1, 2014

Shirlean Edmonds went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2014. She is now with the One who she faithfully served with joy. Shirlean was born on August 12, 1946 in Seale, Alabama to Willie Lee and Emma Lene Edmonds. In her youth and throughout her life, she enjoyed dancing, entertaining others with her sense of humor, feisty commentary and serving the Lord. In 1966, Shirlean graduated from Oliver High School and shortly after, relocated to Colorado. Shirlean worked as an Information Specialist with RTD for 26 years; during this time, she exhibited her dedication and ability to encourage others in her own special way. Her devotion to the Lord called her to work at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church as a youth counselor for five years and as an usher for over a decade at Greater St. John Baptist Church. One of 13 children born to Willie and Emma, she is preceded in death by both of her parents and the following siblings: Mazelle Edmonds, Izola James, Emma Edmonds and Raymond Edmonds. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: Her daughter, Tania Yvonne Morris; her granddaughter, Jett Lynne Finley of Aurora, Colorado; six sisters: Mary Edmonds of Phenix City, Alabama, Catherine Wall Edmonds, Bernice (Rev. Toney) all of Lima, Ohio, Alberta H. Chance, Selma Ashley of Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth Anderson of Seale, Alabama; two brothers: Willie Jr. (Rosie) Edmonds of Phenix City, Alabama and James F. Edmonds of Seale, Alabama; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Independent, genuine and loving are characteristics Shirlean's loved ones would use to describe her; she possessed a sweet and simple demeanor that was admired and loved. Her faith, humor and strength will serve as an example for all who truly knew her. Shirlean enjoyed reading her bible, spending time with family, playing games with her granddaughter, traveling and spoiling her dog, Dasher Todd Thibodaeux. During her eight year battle with colon cancer, Shirlean was a beacon of light and hope to everyone who knew her. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and peace in the midst of trial will serve as a legacy to a true child of God. ""Cancer doesn't have me, I have cancer"". Memorial donations can be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance at: http://www.ccalliance.org/donate/memorial.html. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, 1:00 PM, Greater St John Baptist Church, 1312 Uinta St in Denver, Colorado 80220. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from too many people to name individually. This obituary is written by Tania Morris and Jett Finley as a loving tribute to our beloved mother and grandmother. We will continue to thank God everyday for you and the legacy you left us. His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!""
