Sherwood Belden "Woody" Browning, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, in Littleton, Colorado. He was born on March 11, 1937, in Moscow, Tennessee, to Sherwood Albert and Mattie Eola Malone Browning. Woody grew up to embrace a life filled with love, laughter, and service.
Woody proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he dedicated himself to his country with the same vigor he applied to every aspect of his life. He proudly worked as a “test-dummy” for the Apollo mission for three years. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a Water Quality Specialist for the USGS, a role in which he excelled and helped to ensure the safety and quality of water resources.
A graduate of Lambuth College, he was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he found a community of faith that supported him throughout his life.
Known for his humor and storytelling, Woody was often found walking his dog and sharing tales that captivated and entertained his listeners. His ability to provide for his family in countless other ways was unmatched.
Woody is survived by his daughters, Sheri (Vince) Lee, Kathy Browning, and Debra (Travis) Horine; grandchildren, Sabrina and Samantha Lee; Hannah, Lisa, and Luke Thomas; David, Aaron, and Seren Yelk. He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuela Browning, after they shared 56 years of marriage; and granddaughter, Michelle VanRamm.
Woody's legacy of kindness, love, and dedication to his family and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM MDT on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 9800 Foothills Canyon Blvd B, Highlands Ranch, Colorado 80129.
Interment will be at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colorado 80236.
