Sharron Rae Payton

September 16, 1943 — October 10, 2025

Sharron Rae Payton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Sharron’s early years were filled with joy and movement—she loved roller skating and dance, passions that brought her happiness throughout her youth. She graduated from East High School in Denver in 1961 and soon began a remarkable career with the State of Colorado. Starting as a Clerk Typist, Sharron’s dedication and work ethic propelled her through the ranks, ultimately serving as Director of Personnel in the Department of Administration. Her achievements were all the more impressive as she accomplished them with only a high school diploma, a testament to her determination.

Sharron’s life was enriched by her love story with Abraham “Abe” Payton. Their paths first crossed at USO dances at Lowry Air Force Base, where they were paired together for a dance. Over time, friendship blossomed into romance. When Abe was deployed to Vietnam, Sharron faithfully wrote letters and sent care packages, waiting for his safe return. Upon his homecoming, they married on August 5, 1970. Last August would have marked their 55th wedding anniversary—a glowing testament to their enduring love.

Photography was Sharron’s greatest hobby, and she found joy in capturing the beauty of nature and wildlife. She always kept a camera in her car, ready for the perfect shot. Sharron also expressed her creativity through scrapbooking, where she put her artistic talents to use making beautiful albums filled with cherished memories. Her scrapbooks were thoughtfully designed, blending photographs, mementos, and decorative touches that celebrated the special moments in her life and the lives of her loved ones. A devoted Denver Broncos fan, Sharron held season tickets in the early 1980s. One memorable moment was when she photographed quarterback Craig Morton with her telephoto lens, mailed him copies, and received an autographed photo in return.

Sharron was also an avid collector, cherishing Cabbage Patch Kids, Madame Alexander dolls, Beanie Babies, and coins. She was a huge Star Trek fan, regularly attending Star Trek conventions and delighting in dressing up in Star Trek costumes for Halloween.
