Sharon was born in Stratton, Colorado, on December 19, 1943, to Harold and Mona Dietz. She died in her home on May 4, 2026, surrounded by her sons and family after suffering from congenital heart failure and kidney failure.
She graduated from Liberty High School in Joes, CO in 1961.
On September 3, 1961, she married Leland Gurss in Kirk, CO. Three boys were born into this marriage: Greg (1962), Ronnie (1964), and Gary (1968).
Sharon had a passion for being outdoors tending to her garden and planting flowers. She was a pillar of support to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always present at their sporting and school events. Her home was a gathering place where she nurtured generations of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharon shared her love of the Nuggets, Broncos and Rockies with her husband, you could always find her cheering their games on. Leland and Sharon were constantly remodeling their home. She colored on her iPad every day without fail and she set a record for 981 consecutive daily pictures. You could find Sharon relaxing by crocheting baby blankets for her family.
Every year she spent a week with her sisters up in Thornton, you could find them shopping around town or enjoying a strawberry daiquiri. The love she had for her family was unprecedented.
Sharon leaves to mourn her passing, her boys, Greg and Taleen of Folsom, CA, Ronnie and Wendi of San Diego, CA, and Gary and Tamara of Thornton, CO; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Her brother and sisters, brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survived her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland, with whom she shared 62 and a half years of marriage, as well as by her parents, her sister-in-law Francis, her niece Summer, and her in-laws.
Her family and friends will miss Sharon.
