Sharon Marie Cherry

Sharon Marie Cherry (Blum) passed away suddenly on April 28th, 2025. She was born on January 16, 1958, in Harlan, Iowa to Vernon and Irene (Kloewer) Blum. She was the 3rd of 6 kids. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Anita Michel. She was raised in Panama, Iowa, and completed her primary education at St. Mary’s Catholic School and her secondary education at Harlan High School where she graduated with the class of 1976. Sharon moved to Colorado in 1978 and married Donald Alvin Cherry in 1980, starting her family shortly thereafter.

Sharon worked various secretarial jobs before beginning her passion of working with children in the Denver Public School District where her kids attended. She started her school career at Steadman Elementary school in 1989, working at various elementary and middle schools throughout her career. Sharon was passionate about her children's education and all three graduated from college. To provide for her family, she also worked various jobs throughout the years, on top of her full-time job. In 2000, Sharon became a single mother and decided to pursue her teaching degree while continuing to work full time. She graduated from Metro State University in 2012. After getting her degree in Education she was drawn to work in the Special Education classroom. Sharon retired from DPS in 2023 after more than 30 years.

Sharon loved being retired and kept herself busy by spending time with her kids, grandkids, and other family, as well as getting back into church, joining various church groups and volunteering. She was a world traveler taking two different religious retreats. The first where she went to visit the Western Wall in Israel, and the second where she went to Spain to complete a portion of the Camino de Santiago where she walked 191,773 steps or 130.40 miles. She also traveled to Indonesia and Japan at different times to visit her sister and brother.

Sharon is survived by her three children, Leslie Wimbs, Donald Cherry, and Jennifer Marquez, her sisters Debbie Maxwell and Brenda Keegan, and her brothers Dennis Blum and Glen Blum. She was the proud grandma of Isaiah Wimbs, Roscoe Cherry, Eva Marquez, Makaila Wimbs, Clara Cherry, Kaiya Wimbs, David Cherry, Araiah Wimbs, Joanna Cherry, and Alaia Wimbs.
