Senga Ann Friend

Senga (Sig) Ann Friend, age 78, died in her home in Thornton on July 6th, 2024. Sig was born in Denver, Colorado, the only child to parents Inez Ruth and Iwin Leland Slaughter. As a family they enjoyed jeeping, camping, and Sunday dinners with her grandparents. She grew up in Lakewood and graduated from Lakewood High School. When the home next door to her childhood home went up for sale, she moved there, making her a Garrison Street resident for 74 years. 

Sig married one of her best friends from her youth, Kenny Friend. Together, they went jeeping, explored Colorado mountain towns, and browsed interesting shops. Sig loved cats, hosting 4th of July parties, shopping for unique trinkets, and giving beautifully wrapped gifts and cards. She worked for a variety of companies, including Lakewood Fordland, the Denver Broncos, and two law firms. 

Sig will always be remembered for her generosity, willing ear, sense of humor, sack lunches, and expert ribbon curling. She is survived by her loving husband Kenny; niece Laura and husband Robert; chosen family Jane, Christian, Holly, Joe, Jessalyn, and Lola; and dear neighbors. 

Services will be held Wednesday July 17th, at Horan & McConaty (9998 Grant St) in Thornton. There will be a viewing at 10am, a service at 11am, and refreshments immediately after.
