Sandra B. Slack, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022. She was born to Harold and Bernice Westbrook and raised in western Michigan along with her five siblings. “Bernie” as she was known to all friends and family since childhood, was a graduate of Western Michigan University and an elementary school teacher until she retired. Along with her beloved husband of 48 years, Elwin Slack, she moved to Colorado in 2001 to enjoy retirement as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Bernie lived a wonderful life filled with the joy of family. She loved to dance, sing, and had an incredibly infectious laugh. She especially loved being near the water where she could swim, boat, and build sand castles alongside her grandchildren. The hobbies she most enjoyed most were knitting, gardening, reading, and playing bridge. She was a devoted Daughter of The King and dedicated church volunteer for most of her adult life. She was a loving and loyal dog lover who enthusiastically doted on her pets. In retirement, Bernie and Elwin enjoyed traveling together, and especially looked forward to time spent wintering in Florida and Arizona.
Sandra is survived by her dear and cherished husband, Elwin Slack; their four children/step children Lenee LaRouche, Michael (Gianna) LaRouche; Steven (Trish) Slack, and Daniel (Patricia) Slack; nine grandchildren Elizabeth Stockman, Anna Wigandt, Marisa LaRouche, Matthew LaRouche, Connor Slack, Devin Slack, Joshua Slack, Joel Slack, and Kristen Slack; six great-grandchildren; and her siblings Robert (Beverly) Westbrook, Jane Kaule, William Westbrook, and sister-in-law Pat Westbrook.
Bernie is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William LaRouche; her sister Loretta Schilleman, and her brother Fred Westbrook.
