Sandra Marie Neener, 67-years-old, died with her family present on Saturday, July 30, at her home in Denver, Colorado. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through a 25 year valiant fight against Breast Cancer. Sandra fought to do her part in assisting in the cure for breast cancer, participating in 9 research studies, not only with the thought of a future cure for her own family but for others who are affected by this horrendous disease. Married for 43 years, Sandra and her husband Elwood raised their 4 children, Michael, Kristen, David and Michelle. Her 7 grandchildren brought great joy to her and include, Hailey, Kylee, Ryan, Reagan, Shane, Marin and Ashlyn. Sandra was born on June 15, 1949 in Albany, New York to Frank and Santella Long. The second oldest of 4 siblings, Sandra leaves behind her sister Joanne, brothers Robert and William Long. Her other surviving family members are numerous and were special to her in many ways. After working as a registered nurse for thirty five years, the couple retired in 1996. They sold their home in Ulster Park, New York and traveled the country in their RV, volunteering in National Parks near their children and family. In 2012, Elwood and Sandra decided to settle down near their children and grandchildren to make Denver, Colorado their permanent home. Her remarkable gift of graciousness, thoughtfulness, unwavering strength and selflessness won the trust and hearts of many and will never be forgotten. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually. A private family ceremony will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Englewood, CO on Wednesday, August 10 with her husband and children.
